Straight Up & Altered
High Dynamic Range (HDR), Manipulated Polaroid SX-70 & Digital Photography by Jerry Gammon
Tuesday, January 11, 2011
This is one of my favorite digital images - a grove of Japanese Maple trees at Norfolk Botanical Garden. I have shot them in all seasons, in digital and HDR format.
Spent 11 great years manipulating Polaroid SX-70 photographs. That all ended in 2006 when Polaroid discontinued the Time Zero SX-70 film (there is no replacement for it that can be manipulated).
With the loss of that creative outlet, I tried to become a better digital photographer. When I discovered HDR photography in the Spring of 2010, it gave me a means of capturing some of the "painterly" effects of Polaroid. I use it when the occasion seems right for HDR...not in every shot.
Have been an exhibiting member of Blue Skies Gallery in Hampton, VA since 1996.
I shoot with Canon gear: 7D, 50D, 24-70 2.8 L, 70-200 2.8 L and 100-400L lens. Also have several Sigma lens made for Canon.
